Tickets go on sale for Uckfield Blues and Roots Festival 2018
Tickets are now available for the Uckfield Blues and Roots Festival which takes place from Friday, July 27, to Sunday, July 29.
Full details of the 2018 line-up can be seen at uckfieldbuesandroots.co.uk and tickets can be booked on the website too.
There will be performances at Uckfield Civic Centre on the Friday and Saturday evenings, a free afternoon of live music in the gardens at The Highlands Inn on the Sunday, and a ticketed event that evening when the festival will take over the restaurant area.
Headline acts for 2018 include The Anysley Lister Band, Catfish and The Heidi Burson Band.
There are international acts from Italy and the USA, and performers of all ages including 14-year-old Marcus Praestguard-Stevens (Crossfire), and much-older Dick Middleton (The Vincents) who played with Gene Vincent and Johnny Hallyday.
There are local musicians taking part too, including Nigel Bagge and Beth Ellwood.
The line-up for Friday, July 27, at Uckfield Civic Centre:
7.30pm Veronica Sbergia and Max De Bernardi who play country blues and ragtime, hokum, jug band and rural music from the 20s and 30s.
8.30pm The Wildes (Dani and Will as duo). Two of the UK’s finest blues artists, siblings Dani Wilde (country and gospel approach to the blues) and Will Wilde (soulful blues), come together for this special Uckfield performance. They will share songs from each of their respective new albums and visit material from their extensive back catalogues.
9.30pm Catfish. British Blues Award winners Catfish have carved a reputation for themselves as an excellent live band with a phenomenal frontman in 23-year-old guitarist/vocalist Mat Long.
Saturday, July 28, Uckfield Civic Centre
7.30pm Richard Townend & the Mighty Boss Cat who are a critically acclaimed four-piece Americana band from Essex formed for the song-writing talents of Richard Townend.
8.30pm Greg Coulson Band. Greg Coulson is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer, who, together with his band, made an impact at the 2018 festival.
9.30pm Aynsley Lister Band (special guest appearance Marcus). Combine natural ability with fiery, emotionally-charged compositions and the result is guitarist Aynsley Lister. His brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary song-writing.
Garden line-up at The Highlands Inn
Elsie Franklin – this teenager interprets classics from the country blues repertoire and performs her own original material.
Fran McGillivray and Mike Burke who have a strong following on the blues and roots music scene.
Crossfire – a four-piece blues-based band formed by Marcus Praestgaard-Stevens in July 2017 when he was 13-years-old. He is a UK Blues Award nominee this year.
The Vincents with Beth Ellwood – The Vincents play a mix of classic country rock and blues, and Beth, who will be guesting with them, has recently been lead vocalist with local band the Luv Nuggets.
Nigel Bagge Band – Toured Europe with Angela Brown and The Mighty 45s appearing at major festivals in the 1990s and 2000s. Has performed with Peter Green, Chris Farlowe, Miller Anderson, and was a founder member of the legendary Nicky Moore’s Blues Corporation.
Sunday evening, July 29, Highlands Inn
7pm Grizzly and The Grasshoppers. Grizzly Rhys Morgan recently featured in Blues in Britain magazine and is renowned for his gritty vocals original music and performances on lap slide guitar. The Grasshoppers include Joe Rideout on bass guitar, and drummer Jack Usher, formerly with The King Blues. The music is Roots and Blues with a touch of Folk and a hint of Traditional Blues.
8pm The Pete Harris Trio. Features Pete on vocals, acoustic guitar and slide guitar, Jon Vaughan on harmonica and Dave Sims on percussion. Together they produce a mix of good-time Blues, Ragtime, Gospel and Americana.
9.15pm Heidi Burson Band. Nashville based R&B soul artist is described as having a voice and style that is uniquely arresting. Her vocals, piano-playing and soul-based song-writing is inspired by her love and respect for the great soul artists.
