October Gala at The Lavender Line
Location: The Lavender Line, Isfield Station, Isfield, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 5XB
Date: Saturday, October 6, 2018, - Sunday, October 7, 2018, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm
The Lavender Line, at Isfield Station, will be holding a miniature steam traction engine and classic car rally on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7.
Along with miniature steam traction engines and vintage/classic cars, there will also be buses, vans, trucks, motorcycles and car clubs.
Riley’s Miniature Railway is also expecting visiting locomotives and offering rides to children and adults alike.
The event will be open from 10am to 5pm each day and there’s still time for anyone wishing to display a vehicle to get involved. Just contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Camping is available to exhibitors from Friday evening through to Sunday.
While at the gala you will be able to visit Cinders Buffet in the old station building which offers breakfast, a full range of cooked meals, light lunches, tea, coffee, cold drinks, and cakes.
There is also a shop, in the old waiting room on the opposite platform, selling souvenirs of your visit, books, railway related DVDs, and model railway stock.
The original Victorian signal box at the station has been restored and is now a Grade II listed building. It is open to the public and in it levers and other equipment, which used to ensure the safe passage of trains on the line, can be viewed.
Also in the signal box are photographs from the days when the railway was part of the main national network at the time you could travel on the railway line from Lewes to Uckfield, before it was closed in 1969.
Riley’s Miniature Railway is behind Platform 2 and is a fun, not for profit, five inch gauge miniature railway where 100% of the fares, and donations are sent to the Evelina Children’s Hospital, London. If you visit please ask about the heart-warming story behind the miniature railway’s inception.
A children’s play park can be found by the station building and some visitors may be fascinated by the station’s original goods yard crane, cattle dock, coal office and water tower preserving and documenting the railway’s past.
The Lavender Line, run by volunteers, is a standard gauge heritage railway which operates preserved steam and diesel locomotives and offers a two-mile round trip from the Victorian station at Isfield to Worth Halt in Little Horsted travelling through wonderful Sussex scenery.
