Macmillan Coffee Morning in memory of Sheila Hay
Location: The Wakelyns Civic Approach Uckfield East Sussex TN22 1AJ
Date: Friday, September 27, 2019, 10.00 am - 12.00 pm
A coffee morning is to be held in memory of Uckfield artist Sheila Hay at Fuller and Scott funeral directors on Friday, September 27.
All are welcome to attend, enjoy refreshments, and see some of Sheila’s work on display in the window there.
If you can’t make that date then you are invited to take a look at the window display another time and still pop in for a cuppa. The display will be in place from Monday, September 16, to Monday, October 7.
Sheila’s work has regularly been on show in the Fuller and Scott window over the past few years and funeral arranger Karen Crisp said she and her colleagues, funeral director Tony Fear, and funeral arranger Debbie Lynam, became very fond of her.
Karen said: “She was one of those people with a big personality. She was lovely, softly spoken, and very humble about her work which is beautiful.”
Sheila, who lived West Park, Uckfield, died aged 81 in May. Her husband Maxwell died two-and-a-half-years ago.
She was a self-taught artist and pursued her talents as a greetings card artist, floral card designer and wildlife artist.
Her work was mainly in gouache but she also produced stunning pencil sketches of safari wildlife and exhibited with many art societies at exhibitions in the south east.
Sheila was an active member of the Uckfield Art Group and her works were often voted Best Painting by those attending exhibitions.
Even now Sheila’s artwork can still be bought as prints and greetings cards soon to appear on Etsy under the name SHayArtWork. They will also be for sale – payment by cash or cheque – during the Fuller and Scott event.
