Gardens and Guerrillas lunch and talk
Location: Buxted Park Hotel Buxted Uckfield East Sussex TN22 4AY
Date: Monday, November 25, 2019, 12.00 pm - 3.00 pm
Hospices of Hope is holding a lunch at Buxted Park Hotel and delighted to announce that Tom Hart Dyke has agreed to be the charity’s guest speaker.
Tom will talk about growing up at Lullingstone Castle in Kent, his time in captivity in Colombia – and fulfilling his dream of creating the World Garden – a project conceived whilst he was held prisoner.
Tom’s first shot to prominence occurred as he and his travelling companion were on a plant hunting expedition in the Colombian jungle when they were kidnapped by guerrillas. Three months into their ordeal the shattering blow came when they were told that they should prepare to die that very night!
Trapped in this nightmare scenario, Tom decided to spend his final day on earth designing his dream garden and started planning a World Garden which would contain thousands of plants that he had collected from across the globe, planted out in their respective countries of origin.
Fortunately Tom and his companion survived the kidnap ordeal and on his return after nine months in captivity he made his dream design a reality at his home, Lullingstone Castle in Kent.
Tom is well known for his TV work including Channel 4’s A Dangerous Obsession which followed his search for an orchid to name after his grandmother and Save Lullingstone Castle produced by KEO Films for BBC2.
The Gardens and Guerillas Lunch will take place on Monday, November 25, from 12:00 until 15:00 within the magnificent setting of Buxted Park Hotel near Uckfield, East Sussex.
